I agree, and as I said I'm usually tourney first guy
The NIT would be a nice little nugget for this team. Even a month ago I don't think the NIT was on the table.

May need to win Saturday to make sure even that happens, but I would guess by winning at least a game in the conference tourney this team would make the NIT.

Also, I think it's different this year than two years ago. This team is playing for everything they get. Right or wrong, the 2015 team was devastated by the snub and didn't care about the NIT.

A long NIT run wouldn't be the end all for this team
The NCAA would be nice, but it's a long shot and very possibly one and done. A long NIT run prolongs the season and maybe gets us another home game. It would not be a bad way to end the year at all. As long as Larry and the team are willing to give the NIT a solid effort, unlike 2 years ago.

I am not well versed in KenPom
But I know who you play and margin of victory are big factors. If we had held on and beat Wyoming by double figures it would have helped a lot more than a two-point win. Both close games at home actually hurt our number there, which I think was in the high 80s before Saturday.

Wichita State is a ridiculous No. 10 in KenPom. They have only beaten two good teams -- CSU being one of them --but they played a really tough nonconference with no wins. But no blowout losses. So they are rewarded mightily.

People want to argue that KenPom is a more realistic measure than RPI, but it's just the same crap in a different container. Wichita State is very good, we saw them in person, and they deserve to be in the tourney but they aren't close to No. 10. And CSU is probably a bit better than 91.

Complete last play breakdown, and other notes...
So I've watched the last sequence a good 20 times now (just like SDSU's finish), mainly because it was so f-ing awesome, but because in the moment I was crapping my pants.

When we watch this as some coaches tape, it's pretty surprising. For a variety of reasons, I was shocked that this is how the final possession played out.

I don't know about ya'll, but given the possession we had at 1:10 to 0:38, where Nixon was also ball dominant, jacked up a 3 that barely grazed the rim, I was hoping we would go a different route.

I was sure Omogbo would get a chance to post up or dribble drive. After all, we were only down one, and had 14.8 seconds, AND - it's Omogbo, AND it's on Senior night, AND he was 5-7 for the night, AND what he just did against SDSU...how could he not get a look at this point?!?! (In regards to what I Bleed Green overheard his family saying, I too was wondering why he wasn't getting the ball more in the 2nd half during the Wyo run.)

What shocked me was noticing how much of this play must have been designed as a clear out, drive the lane or pull-up for a game winner for Nixon (or in Nixon's defense whoever was bringing up the ball). It's either that, or every other Ram on the floor froze up.

Watch it again. Omogbo doesn't post up or call for the ball (he was being guarded by Hayden Dalton btw). He, and every other Ram, just all hang out outside the 3-point line. Only one foot of Omogbo, and one of Carvacho's even go inside the 3-point arc (not even Nixon's)! Everyone stands there besides Carvacho who is up top setting high screens for Nixon.

Given we only needed a 2 for a game winner, still had 10 seconds to work with by the time the ball was brought up, I get that you want to give someone a chance to drive or get a close pull-up jumper. But still, it's clear this wasn't going to Omogbo. Was that LE's or Nixon's call? We may never know. Don't know if they talked about this at the 0:23 timeout by WYO.

After all this, the lane IS completely cleared out. WYO put up some great defense, got some help on the pick from 2 defenders (didn't help that they probably knew Carvacho wasn't going to cut to basket AND that Paige was 10 ft off the 3-pt line - so his defender had an easy opportunity to help).

ALL OF THIS - it was literally down to Nixon at that point. Found a tiny opening when Lieberman finally came off of Nixon to pick up Carvacho after the pick (thinking he had the help of 2 defenders (which he did) but one retreated back to Paige, and the other took a step and a half back to defend a possible drive). Shot off.

The rest is history. The way it went down was really a low % chance to win. All the more amazing. So f-ing glad it did.

It would have been some all-time heartbreak to see that collapse at home for Omogbo and Clavell, on senior night, (possibly) last Moby game, in front of a big crowd, AND in front of their families, with the regular season conference title shot out the window for some extra flogging.

Holy hell. As Ram fans we've been on the other end of that for too long. What a nice change of pace, eh?

The last 2 games have been nothing short of EPIC. I've been riding such a high. Got to be 2 best back-to-back finishes in CSU history. Euphoric crowds, and thankfully, crowds were on hand! The Morris Miracle was to a half-empty Moby a few days before or after Christmas from what I remember, not as euphoric with the student sections full and rushing the floor.

I said it a while back, its been a bliss to watch Omogbo and Clavell. I think we've all just witnessed the first time CSU basketball has had two First Team All-Conference players the same season. GO RAMS!

LONG LIVE THE MAGNIFICENT 7!

I hate KenPom, I get that it has its uses but...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's better to lose by 1 point than to win by 1 point under KenPom. There's a reason Wichita State is so high. They play close games against the "Big Guys" and then blow their conference out of the water.

KenPom will be the deciding factor if there is one
It's actually dropped this week because the close wins at home against lower ranked teams actually hurt in their metric, to be overly simplistic.

RPI is 75 today. If we win until the conference title game it will be in the 50s. We'd get a big boost from beating a top-50 team on the road.

That said, I'm with you. I'm usually a tourney first, second and third guy, but this team has been so unbelievable and we haven't had a championship for so long I want that for them and the school. It will be more meaningful to us in the longterm than likely one NCAA tourney game.

It's the end of a long stretch of awesome play, but one more great game and it's theirs. I love that it's winner take all.

Our metrics, as of now, still need a lot of work
KenPom is at #91 and RPI (I think) is at #80.

I have no idea what it would look like if we won the next two or 3 and then lost in the MW semis or final. I'm going to operate under the assumption that we're going to have to win the Tournament in Vegas.

However, I'd REALLY like to see this team win on Saturday in Reno. Doing that would allow them to hang a banner in Moby and be remembered forever, at least among the masses. This team deserves that and I'd love to see them get it because in my heart of hearts I think it's going to be very tough to win 3 games in 3 days next week to get to the NCAAT.

I love the NCAAT as much as anyone, but one draw back of it is that for most fans that's all they focus on and how they judge success.

Regardless of how this season ends though, I will forever remember this team and what they've done. I won't judge them strictly on Saturday night in Reno nor next week in Vegas.

But selfishly for them, I want them to be able to hang that regular season banner in Moby. This group of 7 deserves to look up at the rafters for the rest of their lives when they come back to visit and to see a championship banner they earned.

Yep not beating either KSU or WSU in Colorado in December
really hurt now. Even a win @ Stanford would have helped. the MW has no cache so 13 out of 15 matters little to the NCAAT.

The fact no MW team has done much in the tourney contributes also.

I get the frustration
as I'm sure everyone does.

Senior night, close game, only so many bodies to put on the floor, sort of cheap foul although he did reach, still more than a minute left. Probably a pretty crappy feeling.

It's good that there were people there for him.

It's not the bad losses -- there were only two and both buzzer beaters
as much as there are just no good wins.

I disagree that there isn't a chance if we beat Nevada on Saturday and get to the championship game. But from there it's metrics (and we don't have them) and politics (not on our side either).

If we win until the championship game that will be 13 out of 15 with a couple of nice road wins. You'd have to think our name would at least come up in the conversation.

I've only listened to one of his play-by-plays at length
Most of the time I'm at the game or watching on TV. Last year's Air Force football game I was on the road.

But I'll agree with others here. He puts you in the action. You don't have to guess about the situation at all. Time, down and distance, score, whatever. That's all I really want in a play-by-play guy.

Get a little emotional for the home team at big moments, it's a place. But put me in the action and don't leave me hanging on situation stuff. He succeeds there. Guess I'm not that picky with it.

He recovered ok, was the first to hug Nixon at game's end
It's about the team, and the win. Not about Gian. He knows and demonstrates that.

At-large is pretty much impossible at this point..
too many bad losses in a weak OOC. Its all or nothing in Vegas.

What are the chances the Magnificent 7.........
.......are playing themselves into an NCAA Tourney bid? Auto or At-large. This story is certainly an attention grabber. 9 of 10 and winning 7 in-a-row.

Senior Nights are always great
And for them to give us a game like the one last night made it even more special.

My wife also said that it was obvious LE's wife had a bond with
Omogbo especially. She noted that Omogbo gave LE's wife a full bouquet of flowers and only a single flower to his sister!
It was also clear that the CSU "family" was something special to Gian. When the newscaster asked him about his legacy all Gian could talk about was winning and doing his best for the team. Gian started to break down at the end of the answer.
I wish there had been a way to hear what LE said in the ear of both Omogbo and Gian as he hugged them.

Certainly am bummed to have missed this B-ball season......
........in person or on tv. Your description sounds just like 2013 when the NCAA TEAM had senior night. Very emotional and appreciative. Somehow though, I sense this one had something much more special for the players and Coach Eustacy. Each invested into each other from the beginning.

Onto Saturday w/ min. second place and seed on the line. All goes well and first CSU Conf. Champion since 1989-1990.

His teammates were trying to calm him down...
...didn't want him to get a T on the bench. His brother came down to talk to him and that did the trick. His brother is REALLY into it during the games. For this one, even had a shirt made up with a picture of Gian from Saturday's game on it with the word BEAST. You can really see how much he supports him and is there for him.

This topic is so interesting........
. ........a person knows things are doing pretty well in the Athletic Dept. and on the field of play when the fans are focussed on quality of the radio announcing crew.

We have never seen this playing field quality in Colorado State Sports across the board.

We sat in front of Omogbo's sisters and other guests...
They were having a great time. All of them really into the game (and wondering why he wasn't getting the ball more in the 2nd half during the Wyo run).

Very well put, Joey
Nice to run into you afterwards, too.

Something about this team.....

Hope they have a bit more left in them, but regardless it's been a helluva ride they've given us. And we'll be talking bout this team for years to come in regards to the Magnificent Seven and Clavell/Omogbo.
